In January 2004, Malcolm was a passenger in a car when it was involved in a car accident which resulted in his left arm being amputated above the elbow.

He has been in front of camera, participating in a video for prosthetic engineering. Malcolm's hobbies are quite extensive and varied. They include, boxing, swimming, walking and snooker. The more gentle pursuits are photography, art and design, cooking and having a full and active social life.
