Paul joined the Parachute Regiment from school. He served in Berlin before being posted to Northern Ireland. Six weeks into his tour Paul was blown up in the Warren PointMassacre in 1979, losing his left leg below the knee as a result of his injuries.

| Two years were spent in hospital and in rehabilitation and then back to a new role in the army working as a Parachute Rigger for the APA at their centres around the world. Paul then spent 6 years with the Parachute Regiment Free Fall Team as a rigger display jumper and instructor. From 1991 Paul worked in R and D in the parachute industry. |
| Paul is now retired from full time work and is a Trustee with one charity and helping out several others, whilst keeping current with his parachute ratings. |
