Martin was born in 1966 and left school with 6 "O" levels despite overcoming a learning difficulty that he was only diagnosed with far later on in life. When Martin left school he went into nursing, where he met his wife, but unfortunately had to leave after contracting meningitis. |
||
| Martin then followed family tradition and went into the construction industry where he trained as a quantity surveyor, but realised that he really wanted to work in healthcare. In the year 2000 Martin qualified with a BSc in Diagnostic Radiography (despite his learning difficulty) and moved to Norfolk with his family, to persue his career in healthcare. | ||
| In 2001 Martin was involved in a serious car crash which left him with a badly damaged lower left leg and right shoulder. Martin returned to work in 2002 but found it hard going and by 2003 was confined to a wheelchair due to his worsening injuries. To regain his quality of life Martin and his family decided that he should have a left below knee amputation in January 2004 primarily to stop the pain, but also to enable him to be able to walk again. | ||
| Martin has now returned to his previous hobbies of BMX biking and motor racing in a Caterham style kit car and has also been involved in endurance Kart races. Martin has also recently become interested in SCUBA diving and is looking forward to a new career as an amputee stuntman. | The Childrten of Men Sturat the Life Backwards |
