Alan joined the Army in 1988 at the age of 16 as a Royal Engineer. He later became an Airborne Engineer after completing a parachuting course and went on to serve for a further six years all over the world. It was during a parachuting accident that Alan suffered serious injuries, one of which resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee in December 2001.
Since leaving the Army in 2002 Alan is now in full time employment driving driving Tanker vehicles in and around London and the South East of England.
Alan has also appeared in a Granada Television documentary called “I Survived” where he was the title subject matter, following how the body reacts to major trauma.
