Lee had his left leg below knee amputation in March 2006 after a serious football injury in April 1999 when he suffered multiple breaks and contracted compartment syndrome. He lost two muscle compartments in his leg which meant he could not move his foot up or down. During the many operations he had, the surgeons trapped nerves into the scars. Over a seven year period his ankle began to deteriorate resulting in constant pain, despite medication. After medical consultation Lee decided to have his leg amputated below the knee - a decision he does not regret as he has more flexibility now and no pain resulting in no medication whatsoever.
