Mike is a right leg above knee amputee. He lost his leg in 1969 whilst being a passenger on the back of a motorbike, when a car cut the corner and crashed into his leg. His accident has not stopped him from achieving incredible sporting triumphs.

His interests are motorcycling, cycling (road and mountain biking), kite surfing, swimming, diving, water skiing, slalom and jump. He is a British Water ski Federation level 2 coach and has a license to drive a competition water ski boat.
Mike was the disabled world slalom champion in 1992, and still holds the record for the one legged slalom (four buoys at 32mph!). In snow skiing, he was 7th in the world overall in slalom, downhill, super G and giant slalom in 1998. He is an internationally qualified ski instructor with the British Association of Ski Instructors and a tutor coach with Snow Sports England.

In recognition of his achievements Mike has had interviews with the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV while competing in the Paralympics between 1976 - 1998. Russell Harty also interviewed him with the Paralympic team. He appeared on Anglia TV news whilst teaching Heather Mills to ski. He did off piste skiing on Extreme Sports. In Challenge Anika he taught a group of disabled people to ski. Again in Highway, with Sir Harry Secombe, he taught people to ski. There have been various interviews with French, German and Swiss TV crews.
