In 1997 during a flight to Tenerife for a holiday, Mick developed a deep vein thrombosis. This resulted in him losing his left leg above the knee. This has not deterred him from traveling, which he lists as one of his main interests in life.

He is a keen Chelsea football supporter, taking every opportunity to watch them. Mick is hoping to complete the training required for him to gain his Private Pilot's License (Helicopters). He enjoys meeting new people and trying any challenge that comes his way.
