On the 21st October 1993 Lucy was unfortunate enough to be hit by a train traveling through Farnborough North station in Hampshire. This was a complete accident because Lucy did not see the train coming and as there was no bridge at the station, access was to cross over the track. She was pulled underneath the train and was very fortunate that her only injury was a traumatic amputation of the right leg below the knee (they did find the leg half a mile up the track!).
Prior to her accident Lucy was a hairdresser but felt that standing all day on her prosthetic was not practical so she went back education an studied for A levels. Check out Lucy's web site www.lucyottaway.co.uk for further details of her life. |
