In 2000 Ivan had an accident where he went through the windscreen of his truck. After four years of trying to save his leg it was decided that he have it amputated.

He used to be in the R.A.F. Fire Services. Since his accident he took up indoor rowing, where he has excelled. His other hobbies include his love of all types of movies and reading, Stephen King being his favourite author.
