David lost his leg after an accident between his motorbike and school bus.

Since 1985 he has been a qualified saddler and harness maker, running his own saddlery business. In 1990 he went to work for a large equestrian centre where his responsibilities were: resident saddler, harness maker, tour guide and demonstrator, horse drawn wagon rides and general duties with horses ranging from shire horses and shetland ponies. Since 2000 he has been self-employed as a saddler and harness maker and has recently set up a house and pet sitting business.

In 2005 David walked the Inca Trail in Machupicchu, Peru with the Douglas Bader Foundation.

Along with horse riding, his main interest are driving, golf, field archery, fishing, cycling and cooking.
