Jon-Allan lost his arm after indirect fire attack whilst serving in the Royal Air Force.

Before his amputation he attained the level of Green Band in Thai-Boxing. During 2004 and 2005 R.A.F. Inter Service Fencing he was placed third in the Men's Epee. Both sports he hopes to resume after his rehabilitation.
