In 1997, whilst living in South Africa, David had a motorbike accident and after thirty operations, trying to save his left leg, the decision was made to amputate it below the knee in 2000.

Like all the amputees in Amputees in Action, David's amputation has not deterred him from pursuing an active life with his interests including golf and mountain biking. The more gentle pursuits include films, computers, computer games and anything to do with motor sports.
